Job overview

Our Senior Health Care Assistants work as part of a large team comprising Health Care Assistants at Band 2 & 3, Nursing Associates (Band 4), Staff Nurses (Band 5) and District Nurses (Band 6). We are looking to recruit dedicated, motivated staff that are willing to go the extra mile for our patients to maintain high standards expected.

The Trust offers the prospect of being able to demonstrate experience and skills in a fast paced, ever changing environment, as well as access to a huge range of learning and training opportunities and support form a mentor and our clinical educators.

We are looking for dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic individuals, with a desire to play an active part in the provision of high quality nursing care within the community setting. We want to recruit caring and motivated Senior Health Care Assistants (band 3) to provide the best possible care to our patients. Previous experience of caring for people at home and a commitment to providing care to a high standard is essential.

We have nursing teams based in the following sites: 

North Hub- based at Haxby Health Centre

Selby/South Hub based Selby Hospital, Tadcaster Health Centre or Sherburn in Elmet

East Hub- Tang Hall Clinic

West Hub

South Hambleton and North Ryedale

We require staff to cross cover for other teams and potentially travel to work from other sites.

We currently have positions available in the following sites (Which would be the successful candidate’s main base);

Main duties of the job

You will have the willingness to extend and develop your skills, and have the ability to apply your knowledge and skills to practice. The successful candidate will be required to work over a 7 day period, and will work as an integral part of a busy forward thinking and innovative Community Nurse Team. This is a community post and requires the post holder to work independently in patients' homes.

IT skills are also essential.

The ability to transport yourself and equipment across the locality during the course of a normal working day is required for this vacancy. Access to a vehicle that can be used for business purposes and hold a full and valid driving licence (role will involve travel to numerous addresses that cannot be easily accessed by public transport means) is required.

Person specification

Education & Training

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 vocational qualification in health or social care, or willingness to undertake or equivalent experience in community health care
  • L2 Functional/Key skills OR equivalent clinical experience in a community setting
Desirable criteria
  • Minimum of C grade GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience in health or social care setting
  • Understanding of the role of a Senior Health Care Assistant
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within a Community healthcare setting

Skills & Attributes

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates basic IT skills e.g. accessing emails, experience of working in an electronic patient record and completing patient documentation
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills
  • Able to work independently without direct supervision
  • Ability to manage, prioritise and organise own workload with advice and consultation
