Main duties of the job

We are looking to welcome…

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospital Consultants in Elderly Medicine to join our friendly and dynamic team  based at York Hospital. We have one post available and are particularly keen to hear from individuals with a special interest to develop quality services with opportunities within Acute frailty including in the virtual frailty ward, and dementia and delirium.

The post offered are 6 programmed activities (PAs) with an on-call commitment of 1 in 11 for a dedicated Elderly Medical take.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Hold a medical qualification registered with the GMC
  • Hold a license to practise with the General Medical Council
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Geriatrics via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 12 months of interview) - CESR or - European Community Rights (Within 12 months of completing a training programme recognised for the award of CCT or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research
  • Experience of teaching lay groups and paramedical staff

Mentoring and Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Experience of teaching undergraduate and post graduate trainees
  • Experience of undertaking audits and presenting their findings
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of supervising Specialist trainees

Clinical practice/ competence

Essential criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical experience and skill in the specialty
  • Demonstrates a sound knowledge of clinical governance practice
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in or setting up a clinical service
