Job overview
We are delighted to invite candidates to apply to work with us in this dynamic and expanding General Surgery Department in a beautiful area of Yorkshire.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and forward-thinking colorectal surgeon with interest in robotic surgery. The current general surgical team comprises of 20 gastrointestinal surgeons with specialty interests including colorectal, benign upper GI, and complex abdominal wall reconstruction surgery. Our trust is the third largest in Yorkshire in terms of colorectal cancer volume and we currently perform more than 200 resections robotically per annum. At present there are 6 robotic colorectal cancer surgeons. We are looking to add to this team. The successful candidate will contribute towards our vision of providing robotic surgery for all colorectal cancer patients and support specialism in inflammatory bowel disease and/or pelvic floor surgery.
There are well established MDTs for cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and pelvic floor disorders which allow a full spectrum of interventions including that for early and advanced cancer, ileal anal pouch surgery and ventral mesh rectopexies respectively. The candidate will be supported by an experienced team of colorectal and stoma nurse specialists in his or her role.
Main duties of the job
The principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients within the trust area.
1. To, at all times, comply with the GMC requirements of Duties of a Doctor
2. To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
3. To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your clinical director.
4. To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of any Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
5. On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust’s Corporate Induction.
6. To participate in the Trust’s statutory and mandatory training programme
7. To fully participate in the Consultant Peer Support Scheme and ensure personal attendance, when invited, at the Consultant Development Programme during your first year in post.
8. To be responsible for the clinical management of in and outpatients under your care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The department and Trust both offer a welcoming and dynamic working environment, with opportunities to participate in teaching medical students from the Hull York Medical School (HYMS). The General Surgery department also organises teaching for post-graduate surgeons and run regular simulation, wet lab, cadaveric, endoscopy courses and region surgical meetings and forums.
We also interested in candidates with research experience to promote and develop research within the department and beyond.
