Please note we are recruiting to 2 positions, both full time, permanent:
1x based in York
1x based in Scarborough

We are seeking to recruit a Band 7 Senior nurse in Critical Care. As a highly experienced Senior Nurse with proven experience at Band 6 level in Critical Care and Post Graduate Critical Care qualification you will provide nursing leadership to the team.

As part of the senior nursing team in Critical Care you will support the operational strategy of a large Critical Care department working closely with our Critical Care Unit in Scarborough. Staff recruitment, development and retention is a priority in Critical Care. You will lead a large appraisal team to deliver high and supported standards of professional practice.

As a senior nurse, you will have responsibility for ensuring that high standards of care are delivered to patients, and that practice is underpinned by a clinical governance agenda.

The monitoring, review and development of clinical standards is crucial to this role, along with the ability to lead on change and service development. Clinical expertise is crucial in this role to ensure operational effectiveness and safety is required. Please refer to the enclosed job description and person specification.

Main duties of the job

As a Sister/Charge Nurse you will have excellent leadership skills and will embrace the challenge of working in a highly demanding and diverse environment, while actively supporting the nursing team to ensure high standards of care are delivered.

This is a very exciting time! As a senior member of the team, you will be in a position to influence and affect emergency care as we continue to develop our innovative ways of working. This is a rewarding but challenging role, that requires you to organise and prioritise patient care to ensure maximum and effective flow through the unit and provide support and advice to junior members of the team and/or students.

In this leadership position, you will be expected to provide managerial support inclusive of HR issues, workforce, and change management. In return you will be working with a dynamic multi-disciplinary team with strong peer support, and access to educational opportunities to further your career.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Educated to Degree Level
  • Post registration accredited Critical Care qualification at level 6 or level 7
  • ALS provider
  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Masters level study

Experience

Essential criteria
  • To be able to demonstrate Critical Care experience at band 6 of at least 2 years.
  • Knowledge and application of HR procedures.
  • Evidence of project management and change management.
  • Models expert Critical Care skills and has the ability to implement these in practice.
  • Experience of audit , benchmarking and clinical governance and can utilise results to implement change and improvement.
  • Experience of clinical IT platforms
Desirable criteria
  • Service development and/operational management

  • Evidence of excellent liaison, negotiating, leadership skills and conflict management skills.
  • Insight into current issues in Critical Care nursing and professional issues
  • Understands and is able to ensure safe delivery of safe patient care and effective and safe operational standards within Critical Care

  • Willing to undergo training as necessary
  • Proactive towards change and change management
