Job overview

We are looking for an exceptional midwife to become our Bereavement Lead Midwife

The Lead Midwife for Bereavement is a member of the maternity and neonatal senior leadership team. They will lead on individualised care for families and support our teams to deliver highly effective care. We are informed by the National Bereavement are pathway and the post holder will contribute to  guidelines and pathways, care delivery and service design. 

The skills required include exceptional communication skills and the ability to guide, support and lead with compassion. A commitment to education and collaboration and a drive to improve through listening and engagement is essential. 

Interviews for this position will be held in person ONLY at one of our Trust sites. Remote interviews will not be available.

The validity of Nursing and Midwifery Council PIN provided will be checked before shortlisting  - inaccuracies in NMC PIN details will mean your application will not be progressed

Main duties of the job

You will be an autonomous practitioner, promoting the best practice and highest standards within maternity services. You will be keen to engage in governance, audit and report creation to support our service improvement. Leading by example, you will empower staff in their professional development.  As an expert practitioner,  you will be responsible for liaising, guiding and advising the MDT and maternity stakeholders in the provision of optimum care. The experience of our families will be at the centre of your motivation and commitment.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered Midwife
  • Mentorship qualification / experience
Desirable criteria
  • Counselling qualification or experience

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to provide expert professional bereavement knowledge
  • Post graduate Midwifery experience as a Band 6 midwife
  • Knowledge of bereavement in pregnancy
  • Ability to debate current issues
  • Previous experience with bereaved families
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of initiating and leading a change in practice
  • Leadership skills such as complaint handing and supporting staff

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to teach, inform and educate a range of audiences, from MDT to bereaved service users.
  • Insight into audit, data collection and reporting expectations
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of contributing to guidelines, SOPs, reports and papers using audit, evidence and research
