Job overview

The post holder will play an essential role in supporting the Lead Educator by facilitating education, training and practice development within Child Health establishing a high standard of education for all clinically based staff.

The post holder will work in partnership under the direction of the Lead Educator and will be responsible for implementing evidence based, patient focussed practice. They will work within the clinical area, working with staff to facilitate the development of skills in order to integrate education and practice development, thus enhancing quality care delivery from both registered and unregistered workforce.

The post holder will support the Lead Educator and facilitate audit and research.  They will function as a role model for staff within the clinical area, enabling and supporting the development of interdisciplinary and cross site working to ensure the sharing of good practice and delivery of high quality, effective and efficient care.

Main duties of the job

This cross-site role requires the post holder to demonstrate the knowledge and skills of an experienced paediatric nurse and will:

Work across York and Scarborough Hospitals ensuring equitable education is delivered to high standards.

Deliver core clinical training, induction, and competency workshops for staff, ensuring alignment with paediatric proficiencies and organisational needs.

Maintain and develop clinical expertise to act as an expert resource to colleagues by acting as a role model guiding practice development and education delivery.

Support with the development and review of relevant policies and documents and ensure training is delivered and benchmark against national standards.

Support with audits and reviews to measure the effectiveness of educational initiatives, contributing to service improvement and innovation.

The post holder will promote a proactive innovative approach to education, learning and maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice.

Network with teams within the wider Trust and outside the Trust developing interpersonal relationships.

With support of the Lead Educator ensure the education provision to the nursing teams are met cross site ensuring an equitable provision and high standards of education and teaching.

Person specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Children’s Nurse, Registered with the NMC
  • Recognised teaching certificate or equivalent experience
  • Educated to degree level Evidence of CPD relevant to current role.
  • Willing to undergo training as necessary to undertake role
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching qualification
  • EPALS

Experience & Knowledge Required

Essential criteria
  • At least 2 years post registration experience working in acute Paediatrics
  • Working with a wide range of professionals
  • Awareness of current issues in health care Standards of Professional Practice
  • Knowledge surrounding CAMHS and Safeguarding
Desirable criteria
  • Practice experience across varied Paediatric settings
  • Previous experience of delivering clinical training or support e.g. Link Trainer/Nurse

  • Positive attitude and proven skills in delivery, facilitation and development of training and education
  • Ability to identify own and others training needs
  • Ability to motivate and influence others, demonstrating resilience
  • Ability to communicate effectively with MDT colleagues
  • Can demonstrate awareness of Quality and Safety Agenda in relation to patient care

  • Experience of reflective practice.
  • Able educate both formally and informally.
  • Awareness of learning and development strategies
  • Ability to develop training packages.
  • Proven skills in using simulation as a teaching tool
