Are you an experienced, QCF qualified Pharmacy Assistant looking for your next development opportunity?

Do you want to be part of an innovative project to improve patient outcomes within Cancer Care? 

Following the success of a pilot, we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Pharmacy Cancer Services team. This new role will facilitate the expansion of the project, allowing more patients to be able to administer their cancer treatments at home.

The suitable candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be extremely well organised and able to work both independently and as part of a team. You will be responsible for both the co-ordination of the project workflow and assisting with the Cancer Services Pharmacy workflow, managing prescription processing and working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless supply. You must be able to adapt to changing demands and be committed to providing a high-quality patient focused service.

This role requires an experienced and fully qualified Senior Pharmacy Assistant who wants to expand their knowledge and gain project management skills within a specialist area.

Candidates must hold the relevant qualifications and meet the essential criteria as specified in the person specification.

The successful applicant will be required to contribute to the weekend and bank holiday rotas within the department.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as part of the Pharmacy Cancer Services team to facilitate and oversee the pharmacy workflow associated with the home administration service.
  • To organise and supervise ordering and dispensing activities including staff and workflow.
  • To liaise with patients, clinical teams and Aseptics to ensure seamless supply.
  • To implement and assist in the updating and reviewing of SOPs and in-house competency and training documents.

Please note: This post may become Permanent at the end of Fixed Term/Secondment. 

This vacancy will be considered for a secondment opportunity. Please note - if you would like your application to be considered for secondment, you must secure agreement from your line manager beforehand that you can be released to undertake the role.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences / QCF Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent or QCF level 2 in pharmacy services or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years continuous service in a dispensary environment as band 3 Senior Pharmacy Assistant (or equivalent).
Desirable criteria
  • GPHC recognised accuracy checking dispensing assistant course (ACDA)
  • Level 3 Team leading or equivalent leadership course.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Substantial practical work experience and knowledge relating to the procedures and provision of a hospital pharmacy dispensing service.
  • Knowledge and application of Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Assurance systems
  • Good dispensing and distribution practices
  • Knowledge of COSHH
  • Knowledge and experience of managing stock control
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and experience of working with an automated dispensing robot at a super user/expert level.
  • Hospital pharmacy dispensary experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of error monitoring processes.

Skills and Attributes

  • Proven skills in organising, supervising, and training staff
  • Ability to prioritise workflow when the need arises.
  • Proven communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate to staff to extract maximum output with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to problem solve independently escalating to a senior member of staff when appropriate.
