People for Patients. Our People, our Patients, our Priority

Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Macmillan Project Lead for the Living With & Beyond Cancer Project on a fixed-term basis for 18 months.

The successful candidate will manage the establishment and delivery of a new project, focused on improving the experience and outcomes for patients with cancer on follow-up and surveillance pathways. The post is funded by Macmillan Cancer Support, meaning the successful candidate will become a Macmillan Professional and gain access to a wide variety of benefits and opportunities.

The post can be based at York Hospital or Scarborough Hospital, with cross-site working, and may involve occasional travel within our other Trust sites.
You will be required to liaise regularly with colleagues at all levels of the Trust and must possess outstanding interpersonal skills to balance the demands of a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Project Management qualifications are not compulsory, so this is an excellent development opportunity for both clinical and non-clinical applicants interested in leading a transformation project; however, experience of working on and contributing to a programme of change is essential.
If you are passionate about making a difference then we would love to hear from you.

We would encourage any interested candidates to contact the recruiting manager to discuss the role and look forward to receiving your application.

If you are applying for secondment you must seek approval from your line manager

Main duties of the job

  • Manage and oversee delivery of the Living With & Beyond Cancer Project, taking responsibility for project aims and objectives and line-managing the Project team.
  • Identify and engage appropriate internal and external stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain an appropriate communication infrastructure, communicating progress of the Project in accordance with any required frequency.
  • Identify any training requirements linked to the Project, ensuring delivery of such training either through personally delivered training sessions or the engagement of training sources.
  • Analyse Project progress with reference to key milestones and targets. In circumstances of slippage, identify and examine possible options for corrective action and either personally execute or make recommendations to the appropriate Board.
  • Analyse and interpret National and/or Regional agreements and/or guidance. Identify the appropriate action to be undertaken and either personally execute or make recommendations to the appropriate Board.
  • Effectively plan and organise all elements of the Project, the key elements of which are expected to be development and ongoing review of the Project Plan, co-ordination of the work of any Project Sub-Groups, and planning activity to meet key milestones and targets (taking account of available resources).
  • Create, develop, and maintain appropriately identified Project-specific Policies and Procedures, to both support Project implementation and post-implementation considerations.
