Base - York Hospital

York Teaching Hospital Facilities Management LLP (YTHFM LLP) are looking for Porters to join our team within York Hospital.

The working pattern for this role will be a mixture of 06:00-14:00, 14:00-22:00 and 22:00-06:00,  5 over 7 days inclusive of bank holidays and weekends. 

Previous Portering experience is an advantage however full training will be provided, a willingness to learn and develop your skills is essential.

Main duties of the job

To deliver an efficient & effective Portering Service to our colleagues within York  Hospital. The role includes but is not limited to:

Patient Transfers, Delivery of Linen, Collection of both Domestic & Clinical Wastes, Patient Transfers, Mortuary Transfers, Attend Entonox banks, Respond to fire alarms, Specimen Collections, Blood Delivery, Medical Gases, Transportation of wheelchairs and modular equipment / furniture from around hospital site,  Deploy and assist emergency services and agencies where appropriate including during Major  incidents,    

The post holder will be guided by local and Trust policy and procedures. Work is managed rather than supervised. The post holder will have a level of autonomy to deliver the Portering service effectively.

Full training will be provided, to enable the post holder to become fully proficient. You will be flexible, a good team player, and be able to work various shifts to meet the needs of the service. Shifts will include weekend hours that are paid at enhanced rates.

You must be able to use initiative, be self-motivated and have strong interpersonal, organisational and time management skills.

Previous experience/knowledge within a customer service role and  awareness of health and safety are essential, as is the ability to undertake training relevant to the post.

  • Previous experience of a customer service role
  • Working with people
  • Able to take instruction & apply to role.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous NHS experience
  • Previous experience as a porter

Education, Qualifications and Training

  • English & Maths GCSE or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 1 in customer service or equivalent
