Job summary

The Wellbeing Service is a separate service but work closely with the Mental Health Team and wider Healthcare team to achieve a trauma informed approach for people who have experienced considerable hardship and/or have been victims of torture or human trafficking. As an active member of the wider Healthcare Team within the centre, the role may at times involve multidisciplinary team working with other health professionals such as Nurses, Mental Health Nurses, Psychologists, Pharmacists, Physiotherapists, Dentists, Opticians, Psychiatrists and GPs. The post holder may also be working with other centre staff such as Serco, the Home Office, Beyond Detention or Befrienders. The Wellbeing Service consists of two counsellors.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be involved in daily processing of referrals for the Wellbeing Service and will provide short-term counselling for mild to moderate low mood, stress, worries, sleep hygiene, and general wellbeing for men and women in an immigration removal centre in 1:1 and group format with or without translators. There will be an opportunity to be involved in the development of new holistic wellbeing strategies.
