Consultant Haematologist

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

We’re looking for a highly motivated Consultant Haematologist to join our friendly and dynamic department at Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, part of the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire Group.

You’ll work alongside four experienced Consultant Haematologists to deliver comprehensive general and BSH Level 2b Haemato-oncology care, covering a broad spectrum of malignant and non-malignant haematology. This is a replacement post offering the chance to take ownership of specialist interests such as lymphoma, leukaemia, coagulation, or haemostasis.

What we’re looking for:
A passionate and collaborative clinician with excellent diagnostic, laboratory, and patient management skills. You’ll be GMC registered (or within 6 months of CCT), confident working in an MDT environment, and eager to contribute to service development, clinical governance, and education.

What we offer:

  • A well-established, supportive department with a strong multidisciplinary structure and a reputation for excellence
  • Opportunities to lead and shape service development and clinical trials through our active R&D programme
  • Academic links with the University of Leicester, offering teaching and research collaboration opportunities
  • Access to modern, well-equipped facilities, including a 10-bed Haematology ward, dedicated chemotherapy suite, and newly developed outpatient services

Main duties of the job

You’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality, consultant-led Haematology services for both inpatients and outpatients across North Northamptonshire and neighbouring regions. Working within an integrated MDT framework, you will:

  • Provide expert care across general and malignant Haematology, including Haemato-oncology, coagulation, and transfusion services
  • Participate in the 1:4 consultant on-call rota, with appropriate middle-grade support
  • Lead and contribute to outpatient clinics, ward rounds, bone marrow lists, and the Haematology MDT
  • Offer clinical advice and interpretation of Haematology investigations to medical colleagues across the Trust and in primary care
  • Take an active role in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Support and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, with opportunities for involvement in research and clinical trials
  • Participate in service development, bringing forward ideas for innovation and pathway improvement

You’ll be joining a department that values professional growth, collaboration, and compassionate leadership. In return, you’ll find autonomy, academic partnership, and a culture that puts patients — and people — first.
