Assistant Director of Corporate Finance

Band 8d

Job overview

Join us at an exciting time for the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (UHN) as we continue to build a modern, integrated Finance function supporting both Kettering General Hospital and Northampton General Hospital. We are seeking an exceptional, forward‑thinking Assistant Director of Corporate Finance to play a pivotal role in shaping the financial future of our Group.

As a senior leader, you will drive the strategic corporate finance agenda—leading integrated business planning, delivering high‑quality financial reporting, and providing expert insight to support strong decision‑making. You’ll shape annual and multi‑year plans, ensure accurate Group level consolidation and forecasting, oversee regulatory submissions, and strengthen relationships across system partners. You’ll also lead development of UHN’s Long Term Financial Models, champion automation, improve processes and align planning frameworks across both Trusts.

We are looking for a credible, dynamic finance leader with significant senior NHS finance experience, strong people management skills and expertise in planning, reporting and strategic analysis. If you thrive in complex environments and want to influence financial sustainability and patient outcomes, this role offers real impact.

Join our collaborative, ambitious leadership team and help drive innovation, efficiency and meaningful improvement across UHN.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead and develop finance teams, ensuring strong performance, supervision and a supportive culture.
  • Oversee strategic financial planning, creating robust annual and multi‑year plans with clinical and corporate teams.
  • Lead modelling and maintenance of long‑term financial plans aligned with system‑wide assumptions and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate planning inputs across revenue, cash, capital and balance sheet areas.
  • Act as corporate finance lead for business planning, analysing demand, capacity and financial performance.
  • Work with the Integrated Care Board and system partners to ensure aligned, coordinated planning.
  • Oversee Group‑level consolidation and reporting, including monthly I\&E, forecasts and efficiency programme reporting.
  • Ensure automation opportunities are maximised and reporting structures meet internal and external requirements.
  • Provide high‑quality financial analysis and narrative to support senior decision‑making.
  • Lead timely regulatory submissions and maintain strong relationships with regulators and system partners.
  • Ensure compliance with confidentiality, statutory duties, mandatory training and risk‑management responsibilities.
