Main duties of the job

This post is for Benign Upper GI surgical services. Supporting OG and HPB diagnostics, surgical treatment of GORD, achalasia, gallstone disease (including management of CBD stone disease).

Endoscopy services are mostly provided by the Gastroenterology team in a dedicated unit. ERCP services are provided by the existing UGI surgeon and a Gastroenterologist but it is envisaged that this post will participate in the service.

The post holder will be required to play a full part in meeting agreed waiting list targets, including, where necessary, treating patients from other consultants’ waiting lists (Pooled lists).

The appointees will be expected to take part in the general surgical emergency rota (currently 1:8).

The appointees will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence, have a continuing responsibility for the patients in their care and for the proper function of the Department.  Participation in Clinical research will be expected and encouraged.
