Job overview

The postholder’s duties will be primarily at Kettering General Hospital. Time for specialist interest clinic/ research and to carry out teaching duties as required could be arranged according to the interest of the appointee. The postholder will be responsible for providing a comprehensive general outpatient neurology service to the catchment area of Kettering General Hospital, alongside the existing Neurology consultants and Neurology specialist nurses.

The postholder will also be providing specialist inpatient review where required, if inpatient beds required the postholder will have access to inpatient beds at Kettering general hospital. Junior support available via Registrar. The postholder will be encouraged to practice a special interest clinic that is relevant to the population of the North Northamptonshire health community. Currently complex Neurology cases and Neurosurgical cases are transferred to Oxford, John Radcliffe Hospital.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage general neurology patients and maintain high clinical standards.
  • Provide a full range of neurological services and contribute to service development.
  • Conduct outpatient clinics and inpatient ward referrals.
  • Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement (minimum three audits in five years).
  • No out-of-hours on-call duties.

Essential criteria
  • Completion of Specialty Training (CST or equivalent) or within 6 months of achieving it in relevant specialty)
  • General training in Neurology to specialist level or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of clinical experience as a consultant at a secondary care hospital
  • Experience of Audit and Quality Improvement
Desirable criteria
  • MD, PhD or other higher degree
  • Understanding and experience of delivering organisational change
