Speciality Doctor Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery OMFS

Specialty Doctor

Job overview

The University Hospitals of Northamptonshire Group Oral and Maxillofacial Department are looking to appoint an enthusiastic SAS grade (Speciality Dr) colleague with Oral Surgery experience to join our vibrant OMFS team of 5 Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeons and other experienced SAS Grade Oral surgeons. This is a 10PA post with option to increase to 12PA.

This exciting role offers the opportunity to work across Kettering General Hospital (KGH) and Northampton General Hospital (NGH)—now integrated under the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire Group. The Head and Neck service is at the forefront of this collaboration, and cross-site working may be required.

Main duties of the job

This is a varied and highly valued position that would suit a flexible practitioner keen to develop a portfolio career within a forward-thinking OMFS department. You will join a cohesive multidisciplinary team and benefit from ongoing support, development opportunities, and the chance to contribute to training, trauma management, and advanced prosthodontic care.

The appointee will be expected to undertake minor oral surgery procedures and routine Oral Surgery procedures under local and general anaesthetic, as well as autonomously run regular outpatient clinics. You should be able to work independently but there is senior support available, and we are also keen to support the professional development of applicants who may be undertaking such a role for the first time. There will be fixed clinical sessions but a degree of flexibility is essential.

Excitingly for this post we are offering trauma exposure for the successful candidate to develop their skills outside of routine oral surgery fields.

The post requires participation in the 1-in-6 2nd on call (middle tier) non-resident rota, which is fully supported by a non-resident consultant, and close supervision of junior 1st on call colleagues.

We are partnered with Kettering General Hospital which has a full Orthodontic service with whom we regularly interface to provide a full Orthognathic service in which Oral Surgery plays an active role, and the job plan may involve cross site work.

Teaching junior colleagues is important.
