Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 7 Team Leader Radiographer in the General Imaging Department.

This is open to all Band 6 Radiographers. 

The post holder will be based in the plain film imaging department and will be able to work clinically across all modalities and equipment in the general imaging department. The post will also involve supporting the day to day running of the department, along with management duties where required.

You will be expected to assess daily workloads and capacity to ensure efficient running of the plain film imaging department to provide a prompt service to all patients and service users.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for daily adjustments and amendments to the weekly room rota to ensure safe staffing levels in the clinical areas at all times, assessment of workflow though the department taking into account capacity and demand, management of stock levels, ensuring the equipment is fully functioning and producing optimal image quality by making sure regular QA checks are performed, supporting colleagues of all levels in their daily learning and development and carrying out annual practice based competencies as well as appraisals.

You will also be responsible for welcoming new starters to the team and supporting them through their local induction programme, initial assessments and equipment competencies.

The post holder will apply their clinical expertise, knowledge and associated skills to support all staff in the continuous improvement of practice and enhancing patient care within the General Imaging department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will work as a specialist Radiographer in the main Radiology Department undertaking both clinical and supervisory duties and will be responsible to the Lead Radiographer and the Head of Radiology. Duties will include the following:

  • Undertaking clinical work to include 9am-5pm Monday to Friday primarily, but having a flexible approach to participation in the 24/7 clinical service.
  • Working closely with the Lead Radiographer to ensure adherence at all times to IR(ME)R employers procedures by both self and the wider radiographic team
  • Responsibility for the day-to-day organisation and management of the clinical service which will include the supervision and organisation of band 6 / 5 radiographers and support staff.
  • Responsibility for ensuring a high quality Imaging service is delivered to all patient
  •  Working closely with the Lead Radiographer undertaking a range of delegated managerial tasks supporting the ongoing management of the general imaging service and provision of a 24/7 service.
  • Working closely with the Lead Radiographer undertaking a range of delegated managerial tasks supporting the improvement of quality and risk awareness in the team, along with handling conflict and complaints when the need arises.
  • Support the Lead Radiographer in dealing with Datix.
  • Supervise, support and assist students and junior radiographers in service delivery and personal development.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc in Radiography or equivalent
  • HCPC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • 2 years experience as a senior radiographer

Experience

  • Demonstrable evidence of leadership and supervisory experience
  • Experience in producing and developing staff rosters
  • Minimum 2 years post qualification experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in undertaking extended role in any relevent area
