Job overview

It is essential that the post-holder should hold the FRCA or an equivalent qualification and be on the GMC specialist register or will obtain a relevant CCT/CESR(CP) within 6 months of interview.

It is expected that the successful applicant will work to an agreed job plan. An indicative version is shown in the table. Once appointed, applicants will have a job plan agreed in conjunction with our clinical director and theirs, on behalf of the Medical Director.

Main duties of the job

We currently offer new jobs at 11PAs to include 7.0PAs Direct Clinical Care (DCC) plus 2.5 PAs out of hours DCC and Basic 1.5 SPAs. A job plan review is done after three months and any additional SPAs can be negotiated to reflect the exact working practice of the successful

The job pattern spans a ten-week cycle, which includes three weeks on critical care and 5 weeks in theatre, (six sessions per week + SPA). There are compensatory rest periods built in, known as ‘anti-burnout’ weeks. The overall ICU: anaesthesia split is approximately 50:50
