Job overview

Designated Matron within the family health directorate who will have responsibility for one of the acute ward areas along with the nursing in children’s outpatients, children’s specialist nursing, community nursing teams, the children’s play team and the child development centre.

Have a visible and accessible presence in clinical and non-clinical areas, to help, advice and support for the public and staff, ensuring high quality care for our patients.

Be responsible for providing specialist education and training to a range of professionals/multi disciplines.

Provide nursing knowledge and skills to undertake the operational management and strategic development of the service and maintain compliance with metrics.

Develop policies, procedures and guidelines.

Ensure that the service specifications for the specialist areas are delivered to a high standard ensuring measurable outcomes are benchmarked against National standards.

Responsible for providing high quality care for patients within the Directorate ensuring patient/client /care involvement in the development of services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

   As manager of a complex clinical service and an expert practitioner - liaise, negotiate, motivate, guide and advise the multi-disciplinary team and external agencies in the provision of optimum patient care and pathways.

·        Lead and oversee the delivery of care across responsibility for the children’s outpatients, children’s specialist nursing, community nursing teams, the children’s play team and the Child development centre.

·        Gives guidance and support to the clinical leaders in the services and grow strong leaders for the future.

·        Continually monitors the quality of nursing care to agreed standards and support the teams to implement change as necessary

·        Functions as part of the Children and young person’s board to deliver the best care to Children and young people.

·        Follow Trust Policies and ensure all practice is within the Trust guidelines.

·        Acting as a role model, employ professional behaviour that encourages, motivates and coaches their team members to challenge their current competencies, whilst seeking opportunities to expand their roles.

·        To lead on projects to support the development of services within your portfolio

·        Constantly evaluates nursing care to promote current research-based practice.

·        To deputise for the Head Nurse for Family Health as requested.

·        To be part of the Paediatric Matron duty rota by providing appropriate support to the Trust’s capacity management process to ensure patients access the care needed at the appropriate time and receive their care in the right clinical setting. Thus, ensuring that patient flow is effective, safe and efficient.

Education Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RSCN/RN (Child) (current registration with the NMC)
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent level of education, training or experience
  • Willingness to work towards Masters
  • Clinical experience relevant to the post
  • Excellent management and leadership skills
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in project management
  • Clinical Supervision Course

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to manage/support management of a budget
  • An understanding of Human Resource systems and processes
  • Ability to support a team effectively
  • Demonstrable recent experience of leadership and management of a clinical team
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to apply research findings and support evidence-based practice

Skills

  • Influencing skills with the ability to enthuse, motivate and involve individuals and teams
