Senior Clinical Fellow
NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow
Job overview
We would like to invite suitable candidates for a Clinical fellow vacancy in Dermatology. This is a full time post for one year to replace an existing post.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain Dermatology experience prior to ST3 application.
The post holder will join the Dermatology team and work with a dynamic team of four Consultants, a registrar, a CT2 and a team of experienced nursing staff in an outpatient setting. There will be an opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of general dermatology clinics; together with the registrar, the successful candidate will also see ward and GP referrals under close supervision with the Consultants.
Northampton General Hospital is a busy DGH with the full range of medical specialties. The Dermatology department delivers a spectrum of subspecialty clinics including Skin surgery, Contact Dermatitis, Paediatrics, Leg-ulcer, Photodynamic therapy and Vulval clinics. The Department also has facilities for phototherapy and is supported by a dynamic nursing team. There will be training in surgery and own biopsy lists.
Successful candidate is encouraged to join regular local academic sessions, monthly Oxford Clinical meeting. There will be teaching sessions for medical students and junior doctors from other specialties.

Main duties of the job
The appointed candidate will support the existing dermatology team to provide general dermatological services to Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust. This includes assisting Consultants and registrar in outpatient clinics, supporting CT1 and nursing staff and seeing patients on the ward. There is no commitment to the on-call general medical services.
The Trust has aspirations to become a DGH (+) and this involves the teaching of medical students (currently from Leicester and from Oxford). The job plan reflects the emphasis that the Trust places on education, both of undergraduates and postgraduates and the successful candidate would be required to take an active part in education.
