Job overview
We have exciting opportunities for nurses to join our growing Interventional Radiology team at an exciting time of investment and development in Interventional services.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of Nurses, Support Staff, Radiographers and Consultant Radiologists to deliver high standards of care within the imaging modalities of Interventional Radiology, Fluoroscopy, CT and MRI. The varied nature of this specialty means there is always something new and interesting to learn.

Previous radiology or other relevant experience is desirable, but not essential as all training will be given.
Applicants for full and part time hours will be considered.
Main duties of the job
- The post-holder will have responsibility for the clinical nursing care of patients attending the Diagnostic Imaging Department. This includes rotating within all disciplines of interventional radiology nursing as outlined in this job description.
- The post-holder will assess the needs of patients and evaluate appropriate care within the department ensuring that procedures are carried out within Trust policies and procedures. The post-holder will meet the requirements of the NMC's Code of Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice, with particular reference to personal accountability for nursing duties undertaken.
- The post-holder will work with other members of the internal and external multidisciplinary team, to ensure the delivery of a safe, efficient and effective service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Act as An effective role model to colleagues, in the delivery of nursing care.
Ensure that the care given reflects the hospital and department philosophies standards and protocols.
To liaise with clinicians and staff both in the department and in other areas of the hospital so that standards and activity can be co-ordinated to achieve the best possible service for
patients and evaluate of the effectiveness of patient care and to ensure that patient records are maintained to the highest possible standard.
Participate in the assessing, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care, thus providing high standard of patient care at all times.
Promote a healthy, positive and safe environment for patients and staff.
Ensure that nursing practise reflects current clinical development and is based on sound evidence.
Provide skilled assistance in all areas of interventional radiology
Participate in the on-call service for out of hour’s emergency interventional radiology.
Facilitate stock control and procurement of specialist consumables and ensure that all necessary material resources are available for procedures.
Meet clinical objectives as agreed separately with the lead radiology nurse and superintendent radiographer
People/Management Excellence
Be aware of the budgetary requirement within their clinical areas of nursing.
Collate monthly data as required for departmental audit.
To participate in regular staff and directorate meetings.
Encourage good health & wellbeing and morale, with open communication between all
disciplines of staff.
Assist the superintendent radiographer to create and maintain positive working relationships within the multi-disciplinary team.
Act as a chance agent to promote innovation and high standards of practice.
Help to develop methods at unit level to monitor standards of care in liaison with the Unit manager.

Education, Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered General Nurse
- Teaching and Assessing followed by a period of consolidation of theory into practice
- Evidence of continued professional development in an up to date portfolio
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Post graduate experience within the NHS
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience within radiology nursing
Skills
Essential criteria
- Experience of team nursing and team building.
- Excellent communication skills with individuals and members of the Multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to work well within a team and have effective interpersonal skills
- Ability to assess, plan deliver and evaluate high standards of nursing care
- The ability to act as a professional role model, facilitator and educator.
- An ability to organise the admission, transfer and discharge patients, ensuring patient safety at all times.
Desirable criteria
- Post registration extended skills: such as Venepuncture and Cannulation
