Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our community midwifery administration team supporting our hubs and our community office.

The successful candidate will need to be a team player, have the ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative, have a flexible approach to tasks in a changing environment. They will need excellent communication, organisational, interpersonal skills and be competent in using IT systems.

You will also need to be flexible and have your own transport as you will be required to provide reception cover at different midwifery hubs (Far Cotton, Billing Road, Moulton Park and Danetre Hospital) and on site at Northampton General Hospital. 

Main duties of the job

To provide an efficient reception/administrative service to the Community Midwifery Teams. The role will involve face-to-face reception and telephone duties, booking and re-arranging appointments, general admin and clerical duties. 

Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills will be required for this post as you will be expected to communicate well with all levels of staff and public.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To welcome all patients and their family members into the department in a professional manner, making them feel comfortable and at ease and to direct them to the appropriate area.

Answer telephone enquiries in an appropriate manner relaying information to patients and midwives where necessary.

Maintain good written and verbal communication between all departments and outside agencies.

Use the computerised patient management system (E-Camis) to access patient details, update information and make antenatal and postnatal appointments.

Photocopy and scan documents/notes as required and manage the department post.

Accessing and printing ICE requests in readiness for clinics.

Help maintain hub stock supplies.

Informing Estates/Electronics about any maintenance issues required at the hub.

Ensuring blood samples are collected and delivered to the hospital in a timely manner

Assist in the training of new members of staff.

These duties and responsibilities may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Directorate and in particular the post holder may be required to provide support to other areas within the department as required and to carry out any other relevant duties that may be requested.

Educations, Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 3 GCSE at Grade C or above, including English and Mathematics or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ3, RSA3 or equivalent experience or qualifications

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills
  • Courteous, tactful and efficient telephone manner
  • Proficient in Microsoft packages including Word and Outlook
  • Experience of working in a busy office environment
  • Planning and organisational skills
  • Work well as part of a team
Desirable criteria
  • NHS Experience
