Assistant Psychologist

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologist (band 4) to work within our Learning Disability Services, primarily the Children's Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities, with some work in the adults team. 

 

The successful candidate will work alongside experienced Clinical Psychologists, Trainee Psychologists, Community Nurses and Occupational Therapists.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will carry out a number of roles that contribute to the smooth running of the service, including

Support for clinical audit and research.

       Administrative support to on-going clinical service delivery and to specific projects. Contributing to individual and group clinical interventions.Individual therapeutic work with clients and their families

       Assessments of cognitive functioning and writing reports

 

Regular supervision will be offered by a qualified Clinical Psychologist along with opportunities to attend monthly journal club and peer supervision and fortnightly Psychology meetings and Children’s/ Adults Team meetings. There is also a fantastic opportunity to network with Clinical Psychologists, assistant psychologists and trainees throughout the trust at the Psychological Professions Network (and the assistant psychologist group). These meetings also offer opportunities for continued professional development.  

Applications will only be considered for those applicants who wish to pursue a career in Clinical Psychology and who meet the eligibility for graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the BPS

 

       Excellent interpersonal skills, Energy and enthusiasm,Excellent self-management and organisational skills

       Ability to organise and present numerical, verbal and graphic information in documents and reports

       The ability to both make appropriate use of supervision and to work autonomously when required

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Undergraduate Psychology degree
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
Desirable criteria
  • Further postgraduate training in mental health

Experience, Skills & Attributes

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of working or experience of a mental health service
  • Demonstrates high standards in written communication
  • Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support and Transforming Care
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of using psychological assessments, formulations, risk assessments and care planning
  • Experience of working with people with mental health problems and/or learning disabilities
