Children's Speech and Language Therapist

Band 5

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team.

We are seeking someone who is passionate about working with children and their families, and who wants to be part of a supportive and inclusive team.

We pride ourselves on reflective, neurodiversity-affirming, and strength-based care.

We balance clinical appointments with other responsibilities and allocate significant time for intervention in every role.

We prioritise support and clinical supervision. You will have an induction period with shadowing and joint sessions, as well as regular supervision and support group.

What our most recent Band 5s said:

I always thought I would work with adults until I did my placement here. Working with this team completely changed my mind. The support, knowledge and expertise amongst the whole team was astounding. Since starting as a Band 5, this has only continued, and I can't imagine any other team I would rather be a part of in my first job.”

“When I started, I felt so supported by everyone. We regularly check in on each other which is not something I experienced previously outside of the NHS–the emphasis on wellbeing in this team is fab. I feel as if I can always ask for support from anyone. I would think anyone lucky to be in this team, made even better by team days having fun together.”

This post includes a £3000 incentive subject to terms and conditions

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is required for this role.

Main duties of the job

The Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Team provides assessment, treatment and advice to children and young adults aged 0-19 with a wide range of needs. We work in partnership with families, other health professionals and colleagues in education to maintain a holistic approach to the management of the child.

We have a designated wellbeing team within Children's SLT who help us to keep the wellbeing of all our team high on the agenda.  The Wellbeing Team regularly organise talks and events which are well received by all our department.

You will be surrounded by experienced therapists who can offer weekly mentoring and on the job coaching, along with access to formal CPD opportunities so you can build your knowledge in a specific area of interest as your career progresses.

Colleagues in our team were previously shortlisted for two categories at our NHFT Quality Awards.

A car driver is essential.  We will require sight of your full driving licence at interview.

Contact us at [email protected] if you would like more information.

Working for our organisation

NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools. We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
