Rotational Mental Health Response Vehicle - Paramedic

NHS AfC: Band 6

We are East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS), an organisation focused on delivering a high standard of emergency and urgent care to our patients across the region.

The East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EMAS) provides Emergency, Urgent and Non-Emergency pre-hospital care and transport across six counties (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire & Rutland and Northamptonshire).

Job overview

The NHS Long Term Plan (2019) identifies ambulance services as being integral in supporting people who are experiencing a mental health crisis. The plan commits to introducing new mental health response vehicles to reduce inappropriate ambulance conveyance or by police to A&E.

The Trust has procured a Mental Health Response Vehicle (MHRV) via funding obtained from NHSE/I and revenue funding from Derbyshire Integrated Care Board in order for EMAS to respond with the appropriate resource to those experiencing a mental health crisis.

Main duties of the job

The role of the MHRV Paramedic is to rotate between usual front-line duties and the MHRV. This post will be used on a rotational basis with 3 months on the MHRV and 3 months on a normal rota line within Derbyshire division.

The MHRV will be deployed with both the Paramedic and a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN).

As part of the MHRV response to those with mental health needs, you will support the RMN in ensuring that person centred care is delivered, risks are managed and appropriate treatment and other interventions (pharmacological and non-pharmacological) are offered within a timely manner.

To provide specialist medical assessment skills, knowledge and experience for those presenting to the ambulance service with mental health needs.

To be compassionate in meeting the needs of Service User’s and their carers.
