We’re looking for a passionate and skilled Specialist Family and Systemic Psychotherapist to join our CAMHS Intellectual Disabilities Team. In this vital role, you’ll support children and young people with intellectual disabilities and work closely with their families to improve communication, strengthen relationships, and help them move forward together.
You’ll bring systemic thinking to our multidisciplinary team, offer specialist therapy, and provide consultation and formulation to colleagues working with complex family situations.

Main duties of the job
Provide highly specialist systemic and family therapy to children and young people with intellectual disabilities and their families.
Deliver comprehensive systemic assessments, formulations and evidence‑based interventions for complex mental health presentations. Offer consultation, advice and clinical supervision to MDT colleagues and wider agencies.
Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, safeguarding discussions and multi‑agency planning, contributing expert systemic input.
Contribute to service development, audit and research, supporting continuous improvement within CAMHS ID.
Manage a specialist clinical caseload, including risk assessment, care planning and outcome monitoring.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are seeking a Specialist Family and Systemic Psychotherapist to join our CAMHS Intellectual Disabilities (ID) Team. You will provide highly specialist systemic assessments, formulations and family therapy to children and young people with intellectual disabilities and their families, many of whom present with complex developmental and emotional needs.
Your responsibilities will include delivering evidence‑based systemic interventions, undertaking risk assessment and care planning, managing a specialist caseload, and contributing expert systemic insight to MDT discussions, safeguarding meetings and multi‑agency work. You will also offer consultation, clinical supervision and training to colleagues and partner agencies, supporting a systemic culture across the service.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary CAMHS colleagues, social care, education, and wider health partners to ensure integrated, high‑quality care for young people. The role also involves contributing to service development, audit and research to support ongoing improvement within the CAMHS ID pathway.
Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.
You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

Qualifications - Academic / Craft / Professional
Essential criteria
- • Masters (MSc) qualification in Systemic Psychotherapy or AFT accredited equivalent (usually academic study, assessed clinical training and supervised practice including the full range of models within systemic practice and life span development) – OR WORKING TOWARDS.
- • UKCP registration
Desirable criteria
- • Training in other relevant therapeutic modalities
- • Leadership (qualification/recognised training)
- • Qualification in clinical supervision recognised (by accrediting body)
Training
Essential criteria
- • Trained in delivery of clinical supervision
- • Evidence of continuing professional development
- • To have undertaken statutory child safeguarding training.
