We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic graduate or qualified Band 5 physiotherapist to join our specialist physiotherapy team providing support to adults with intellectual and neurodevelopmental disabilities in Nottinghamshire.
We are a friendly community based service that sits within a wider multi disciplinary framework of support services.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will work alongside a senior therapist with a wealth of knowledge and experience to manage a complex clinical caseload, with additional support provided by the team lead. Regular clinical and professional supervision will be provided along with opportunities for professional development.
You will need proven team working and communication skills, with a high level of self-motivation, flexible approach to your work, and a positive and caring outlook towards individuals with an intellectual or neurodevelopmental disability.
You will need to be committed to providing high quality evidence-based care, maintain up to date records and documentation in line with Trust Policies, and provide support to carers and the families of individuals who access our services as well as other professionals and partner agencies.
You will also need to demonstrate awareness of current issues and legislation affecting people with an Intellectual Disability.
We provide a number of specialist treatment modalities including 24-hour postural management, hydrotherapy and rebound therapy (therapeutic use of a trampoline) and so the successful candidate will be able to gain experience and training in these.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will be responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients with an intellectual or neurodevelopmental disability who are unable to or require additional support to access and benefit from mainstream services (despite expectation of reasonable adjustment) to determine diagnosis and appropriate physiotherapy intervention.
You will work effectively both independently and as a team member to assist in the delivery of high-quality physiotherapy services in line with the department and our Trust’s aims.
You will ensure a high standard of clinical care using evidence-based practice and outcome measures, keeping up to date with clinical developments.
You will ensure effective, considered communication with patients, carers, other professionals, and partner organisations in order to provide exceptional patient care and carer and family support.
You will maintain up to date records and documentation in line with Trust Policies.
We are a community based team and so are required to provide support in the environment most suited to the patients needs. This means that a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use is essential for this post.
On occasion there may also be a need to support patients outside of usual hours, although this is rare.
Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.
You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.
Please note that this post does not meet the pay level required for a Skilled worker visa.
Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change. This salary is below the minimum salary required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa. In these circumstances the Trust would not, therefore, be able to sponsor for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa. Essential criteria
- Recognised physiotherapy Degree/diploma
- HCPC registered or pending registration for final year physiotherapy students
- Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle for business use.
Desirable criteria
- Member of CSP
Experience

- Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Varied undergraduate placement
- Basic knowledge and skills in Physiotherapy evidenced by a portfolio
Desirable criteria
- Experience in delivery of structured groups
- Experience of working with patients with intellectual disabilities.
- Awareness of current issues and legislation affecting people with an Intellectual Disability
- Previous experience of hydrotherapy and/or ability to swim

- Theoretical knowledge of physiotherapy delivery including the use of different approaches and multi-disciplinary working, across different contexts and environments.
- Knowledge of national policies and procedures including risk (relevant to the client group)
