We are looking to recruit the National Rehabilitation Centre’s (NRC) Rehab Assistant Practitioners (Band 4). This is an exciting opportunity to join the team and be part of this new centre of excellence.
The NRC is a new, purpose-built 70-bed facility which has been built on the Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate near Loughborough, delivering a centre of excellence to improve rehabilitation services in England. It is co-located with the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre and shares some of the world class rehabilitation facilities. Thanks to a wide academic partnership, research and innovation and training and education in rehabilitation will be embedded at the NRC and central to clinical practice. We are looking for ambitious and dedicated individuals to join this journey to rehabilitation excellence, transforming outcomes for patients. The NRC will be fantastic for patients but also for staff to access professional development as well as wellbeing support with use of the state-of-the-art facilities.

Main duties of the job
The NRC Rehab Assistant Practitioner (AP) is an exciting role that promotes rehabilitation and encompasses skills across the rehabilitation team. The aim of this role is to intensify the rehabilitation patients receive whilst an in-patient at NRC, by incorporating rehabilitation through all activities of a patient’s day; a 24-hour approach to rehabilitation.
Exciting rehabilitation opportunities include:
· Be part of an expert multidisciplinary team that supports patients with their fundamental needs and to reach their rehabilitation goals
· Work with advanced rehab technology
· Support patients in hydrotherapy
· Facilitate a variety of health and wellbeing groups
· Support patients in a gym setting
· Use of the 300-acre rehab estate

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The NRC’s vision is to transform outcomes for people who have suffered potentially life-changing injury, trauma or illness. To support patients to return to active employment or a meaningful standard of life through integrating rehabilitation, research and education, using the latest innovations and interventions. This will ultimately lead to improving the UK’s position internationally in rehabilitation.
Working as a key part of the NRC team will help to deliver this for our patients in the amazing setting of the Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate with the environment and facilities designed to optimise rehab.
This vacancy would suit those that have a wealth of experience working in complex rehabilitation and want to be part of a team to drive the field of rehabilitation forwards for the nation.

Essential criteria
- Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust’s “We are here for you” behavioural standards.
Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Level 2/GCSEs grade 4 or higher English and maths (Grade C or above prior to 2017) or equivalent Functional Skills.
- NVQ/QCF level 3 in healthcare or equivalent relevant qualification e.g. A-level / BTEC.
- Evidence of recent work-based learning or self-directed learning.
- Willing to proactively engage with Band 4 competencies to demonstrate appropriate level of knowledge and experience required for the role and complete within a 12-month preceptorship.
Desirable criteria
- Care Certificate
- Further rehabilitation qualification e.g. level 5 Rehab AP or FdSc apprenticeship
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience of working as a rehabilitation support worker (Band 3).
- To have experience of working in a rehabilitation or relevant healthcare setting
- To have experience of managing own caseload.
- To have an ability to deal with pressurised/unexpected situations.
- To have evidence of continuing personal and professional development.
- Evidence of involvement in support/development of less experienced staff.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of working as a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner.
Communication and Relationship Skills

- To have effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
- To have effective rapport building and interpersonal skills.
- To have an ability to communicate complex information with patients who have impaired communication abilities.

- Ability to evaluate patient conditions and adapt treatment as necessary.

- To be able to demonstrate a responsible attitude/professional behaviour.
- To demonstrate problem solving skills.
Planning and Organisation Skills
Essential criteria
- To have the ability to work on own initiative.
- Evidence of time management skills and ability to prioritise.
- Ability to deal with non-routine and unpredictable nature of workload.
- To be flexible and willing to adapt.
Physical Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to undertake therapeutic patient moving and handling procedures.
- Able to undertake non-patient moving and handling procedures.
- To have experience of using Information Technology (e.g. basic computer skills).
Other requirements specific to the role (e.g. be able to drive or work shifts)
Essential criteria
- Must be flexible with working shifts across 7 days (currently shifts between 7am to 6 pm Monday – Saturday).
- Must be able to drive or can commute to the NRC
