Job overview

To be responsible for the leadership of Facilities Services: Catering,  across the whole range of activities at Blossomwood Hospital.

To oversee aspects of catering  taking on responsibility of leadership within the kitchen in all aspects of food management, storage, preparation, production, and service in line with the Food Safety & Hygiene Regulations.

To support the delivery and development of Facilities Services across Nottinghamshire Healthcare - multi sites ensuring the standards of work provided meet the needs of service, customer and Trust.

To Work within all appropriate legislative regulations for example, Health & Safety at Work, Food Safety Act 1990 and Food Safety & Hygiene (England) Regulations.

Main duties of the job

The post requires an individual with specific Facilities Service and supervisor qualifications and experience in the leadership of people and services ensuring that services are delivered in line with specified standards and service priorities.

The post holder will support the Facilities Support Services Manager and Supervisors in delivering effective services in Catering, Domestic, Portering and Switchboard offering leadership, training and supervision to staff.

Facilities Services forms part of the Facilities Directorate within Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, the Facilities Services Supervisor will have a central base with responsibility for community sites including, hospitals, in-patient areas, day centres, health centres, LIFT buildings and office areas.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responsible for overseeing Facilities Services being actively involved at Supervisory level to ensure a professional, skilled and knowledgeable workforce is maintained whilst working within Policy.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment. 

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies. 

Please note that this post does not meet the pay level required for a Skilled worker visa.

Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change. This salary is below the minimum salary required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa. In these circumstances the Trust would not, therefore, be able to sponsor for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • City & Guilds 706/2 or equivalent (NVQ Level 2/3).
  • Level 2 Food Safety Certificate.
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised cleaning or support services qualification.

Training

Essential criteria
  • Ability to undertake all mandatory training as required by the individual site.
  • Ability to undertake any necessary skills and competency training required by the post.
Desirable criteria
  • Level 3 Health & Safety Certificate.
  • Level 3 Food Safety Certificate.
  • I. L.M or N.E.B.S.S Certificate or equivalent supervisor qualification.
  • NVQ Level 2 Customer Service.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in staff supervision of catering services.
  • Experience in ordering supplies.
  • Experience as a Chef.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to manage a small budget.
  • Experience in producing menus/special diets.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Computer literate.
  • Special diets, cultural/ethical menus, allergen awareness.
  • Production of menus.
  • Due Diligence/HACCP.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of relevant NHS procedures and practices, including legal requirements.
  • Costing menus.
  • Hospital food standards.
