Our new partnership enables the expansion of life-saving stem cell collection services in the UK and creates opportunities to develop research programmes in the future. 

As the Apheresis Nurse Manager, you will be based at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, within the Anthony Nolan Cell Collection Centre, hosted by the Clinical Research Facility.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Cell Collection Centre. This will include the coordination of nursing staff and clinical activity to enable donor medical examinations, effective cell collections and associated activity to ensure a successful cell collection facility.

Training and Qualification

Essential criteria
  • • First level registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • • Evidence of equivalent knowledge and experience to master’s level
  • • Training and education experience within the apheresis speciality.
  • • Teaching/assessment qualification, such as, ENB 998, Mentorship in Practice, NVQ A1/A2.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Expert clinical experience and expertise in apheresis at Band 6 or above, specifically in peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) and donor lymphocyte cell (DLC) collection.
  • Expert proficiency in IV cannulation and blood sampling
  • Understanding and experience of regulatory and accredited requirements and registrations relevant to stem cell collection and health care provision, i.e. CQC, HTA, JACIE.
  • Management experience in a patient-facing healthcare setting.
  • Experience working as autonomous clinical practitioner.
  • Competent in intravenous (IV) medication and blood product administration
  • IT and information systems skills and experience including Microsoft Office suite of Applications.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to present relevant clinical information to a multi-professional audience
  • Evidence of negotiating and influencing skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skill

Analytical & Judgemental skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to read, digest and interpret complex documents including, but not limited to European and National legislation, Department of Health policies and guidance.
  • Ability to interpret and present data in appropriate formats.
  • Ability to process specialist and complex information and present as appropriate
  • Problem solving skills with the ability to make well-informed decisions on a continuous basis.

Physical Skills

Essential criteria
  • Physically able to perform the full range of nursing duties, including clinical skills, use of equipment and accuracy of documentation.
  • Ability to work for moderate periods on a computer.
  • Able to manage periods of concentration and pressured work.
  • Ability to travel as required to meetings both locally and nationally.
  • Flexibility in working patterns and practices as long days and weekend working is required
