Job overview
Applications are invited for the Locum Consultant Radiologist post with expertise in Breast imaging.
We are looking for enthusiastic, dynamic and pro-active colleagues to join a well-established high performing team of 9 Breast Radiologists to provide both symptomatic and screening breast services.
There will be a commitment to General Radiology services as part of this post and a specialist interest may be able to be accommodated. The post will come with a compulsory contribution to the Body out of hours acute imaging support - maximum 1:7 provision of 2 PAs weekend reporting
Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) is the fourth largest acute Trust within the UK. The Breast unit at Nottingham City is one of the largest in the country, treating in excess of 700 new cancers per year, diagnosed from over 8000 new referrals to the “one stop” Breast clinic. Breast Screening is provided as part of the National Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) with an eligible population of around 118,000.
The department has the latest imaging technologies to include Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography, Digital Breast Tomosynthesis, Tomosynthesis biopsy, Contrast Enhanced stereotactic biopsy and Shear Wave Elastography.

Main duties of the job
The appointees will be expected to fulfil the following duties with the agreed Job Plan.
Clinical
A full range of radiology emergency and elective patients are admitted to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and the appointee will be responsible for the management of those patients admitted under their care.
Provision with Consultant colleagues of a comprehensive elective and emergency radiology service.
Provision of reciprocal cover for periods of leave.
Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and the proper functioning of the department.
The appointees will join the existing team of 9 Breast Radiologists and will support the growth in demand for Breast services at NUH.
The person appointed will be required to contribute to the provision of Diagnostic services at Queen’s Medical Centre, City Campus, Nottingham Treatment Centre and possibly to the region via EMRAD.
The posts include sessions for reporting time for MRI and CT. There is an obligation to participate in multidisciplinary meetings.
The successful candidate will be expected to become an effective member of the Breast Radiology team, to be responsible for the care of patients in their charge and to participate in teaching, research, audit and continuing professional development

In regards to these posts, the individuals should aim to adhere to the following principles / aspirations:
• To contribute to delivery of Breast services and Diagnostic Imaging in NUH.
• To work with Clinical colleagues to enhance performance and improve clinical outcomes by: delivering an evidence-based service, adopting and implementing national guidance in a timely manner and introducing new or innovative treatments in line with Trust guidance / policy
• To maintain individual and team competencies and patient safety by attending mandatory training, participating in audit, discrepancy and M+M meetings and contributing to teaching and research
• To minimise reporting times for all imaging and aid compliance with the 4-hour wait in A+E and the 2-week wait for cancer patients.
A commitment to the training of Specialist Registrars on the East Midlands Deanery North Radiology Training Scheme is required by means of formal lectures, informal tuition and supervision, and by encouraging research.
These duties are subject to review from time to time in the light of the changing requirements of the service. If alterations to the described duties are required these will be mutually agreed between the appointee, their Consultant colleagues and the Trust.
The person appointed will be required to devote substantially the whole of their time (pro rata) to the duties of the posts and give them priority at all times.

Professional Registration
Essential criteria
- Full registration with the GMC
Desirable criteria
- Eligible to be included on the Specialist Register
- Within 6 months of achieving CCT at the time of interview
Professional Qualifications/Development
Essential criteria
- FRCR or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- MRCP, MRCS or other professional or higher qualification.
Clinical Skills/Experience
Essential criteria
- Completed approved Breast Imaging Training within a symptomatic service.
- Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families and other health professionals.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within the NHS Breast Screening Programme
- Experience in advanced imaging techniques.
- The ability to develop novel solutions to clinical problems
- Specific training in communication skills
- Specific training in patient safety and/or human factors

- Track record in radiology research preferably with original publications related to Breast Radiology
- Higher teaching degree or qualification or training
Practical Requirements
Essential criteria
- Ability to travel between City Hospital Campus and Queen’s Medical Centre campus
