Locum Consultant Cardiologist with interest in heart failure/imaging

Consultant

Job overview

LOCUM CONSULTANT CARDIOLOGIST Imaging/Heart failure.

Applications are invited for the post of  locum Consultant Cardiologist. The successful applicant will become part of a team of 24 Consultant Cardiologists. They will contribute to a comprehensive consultant-led secondary and tertiary cardiology service.  They will have broad experience in all aspects of clinical cardiology, with sub-speciality expertise in heart failure or advanced cardiac imaging.  The appointee will participate in the cardiology on-call rota along with undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes.

NUH has an ambulatory heart failure unit and heart failure nurse specialists. Imaging modalities at NUH include stress echo, MRI, TOE and CT.

Main duties of the job

A substantive colleague has taken a career break and this has been covered by a locum who is leaving at the end of August. We require another Locum colleague until May 2026 to contribute to the tertiary cardiology in patient and out patient service including the non interventional cardiology on call rota. Expertise in heart failure and/or cardiac imaging would be desirable.

NUH has an ambulatory heart failure unit and heart failure nurse specialists. Imaging modalities at NUH include stress echo, MRI, TOE and CT.

Working for our organisation

Secondary and tertiary cardiology services are delivered on both NUH campuses, at Queens Medical Centre (QMC) and Nottingham City Hospital (NCH). The tertiary catchment covers Nottingham and surrounding districts, North Nottinghamshire, and parts of Lincolnshire and Derbyshire (population approximately 1.3 million).  Secondary cardiology services in Nottingham are provided over both campuses, with the majority of acute cardiac admissions coming through the emergency department based on the QMC campus.

The Trent Cardiac Centre (TCC) is a bespoke cardiac services building providing two cardiac catheter laboratories, a day case unit, and day case echocardiography. There are also two cardiac surgical theatres, dedicated cardiac intensive care and high dependency units, and combined cardiology and cardiac surgical ward accommodation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This post has been configured to cover the remaining 9 months of a substantive colleague's career break. For more information, please see job description.
