Job overview

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic registered nurse to work within our Colorectal nursing team.

The purpose of this role will be the provision of specialist support to take responsibility for the care of a caseload of patients having surgical intervention for inflammatory bowel disease requiring surgical specialist nursing care.

Main duties of the job

To deliver specialist nursing/practitioner care and support to a group of service users diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease who require surgery, by acting as a named keyworker
To deliver, develop and maintain a quality, patient centred pathway of care
Autonomously take responsibility for facilitating the pathway of care for patients with inflammatory bowel disease, who are undergoing surgical treatment
Act as a resource to the wider team
To lead and provide specialist training across functional boundaries, as required

One day per week may be required to support our Colorectal Theatres Team

Training; Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse/AHP
  • BSc in Nursing or similar health specialism or working
  • Knowledge of Speciality
Desirable criteria
  • Acute Colorectal Nursing Experience
  • Awareness of Cancer Targets

Essential criteria
  • Experience of communication within a Multi-Disciplinary Team
  • Experience of breaking bad news.

Analytical & Judgement

Essential criteria
  • ability to prioritize own workload, recognize and respond appropriately to urgent situations.
  • ability to delegate appropriate tasks to other colleagues
