Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for 18.75hrs per week Band 3 dietetic assistant to be part of the supportive and friendly Home Enteral Feeding dietetic team for 12 months to cover maternity leave. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who can communicate clearly in a variety of settings, has excellent IT and organisational skills, plus experience of working with people. The post will be based at City Hospital, Nottingham. 

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work within an established home enteral feeding dietetic team working to provide effective nutritional support to those receiving enteral (tube) feeding at home.

The post holder will also work to deliver administration and clerical support to the home enteral feeding team, such as registering patients onto the Homeward MyConnex system. You will help monitor the busy mailbox, working to close deadlines and action any matters arising.

There will be opportunities to carry out visits to conduct weight checks both in the patient’s home and visiting schools so a car user would be advantageous but not essential. 

You will be expected to have your own caseload of reviews to undertake with the supervision of a registered dietitian. You will speak to patients via telephone to collect information, take details about nutritional intake, and help troubleshooting any immediate nutritional problems.  

The post holder will order and monitor the use of nutritional products (feeds and ancillaries), complete relevant patient case notes and input into data systems in accordance with Professional, Trust and Departmental guidelines.

The post holder will be welcomed into the existing support team, which is made of Administrators, Dietetic Assistants, Technicians and an extremely experienced Chief dietetic technician.

We are a diverse pathway of Allied Health professionals and support staff, employing over 600 staff who work together to deliver high quality care. Our HCPC registered Allied Health professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists and our other staff encompass professionals such as nurses, psychologists, administrative, clerical and support workers.

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of literacy and numeracy such as Maths and English grades A-C
  • Evidence of work based learning or self-directed learning
  • Working towards or achieved NVQ level 3 or equivalent in health related subject
Desirable criteria
  • Nutrition qualification

  • To have effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • To have effective rapport building and interpersonal skills
  • To have an ability to communicate complex information with patients who have impaired communication abilities

  • To be able to carry out anthropometric measurements accurately and use relevant equipment
  • Experience of using dietary analysis programmes
