Advanced Otology/Cochlear Implantation FELLOW
Applications are invited for the post of Advanced Otology Fellow for a period of 12 months commencing September 2026. This post will provide senior trainees who have completed the majority of their training with an opportunity to gain further experience in all aspects of otology, cochlear implantation and skull base surgery as part of a large and well established multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
Duties are at the Queen’s Medical Centre Campus, Nottingham University Hospitals. The fellow may participate in a 1 in 7 ‘hot week’ cover arrangement, to participate in the middle tier of on-call provision, and to help with the training and supervision of more junior SpRs and new junior doctors (F2 – ST2). To be considered for the post applicants must be senior trainees, ideally Post CCT or Year 6.
Working for our organisation
Our ENT department provides a comprehensive range of ORL-HNS services, and is organised on a sub specialty basis. The department is situated in a purpose built PFI building and is shared with Ophthalmology. There is a 34 bedded inpatient/day case ward for adults, shared with Maxillofacial Surgery and Ophthalmology and a 22 bedded paediatric surgical specialty ward. There are 3 ENT operating theatres with a wide range of equipment including new 4K Karl Storz endoscopy stacks, microscopes, navigation as well as new otology drills being procured. In addition, there over £600K worth of new state-of-the-art videoendoscopic equipment to equip our outpatient consulting rooms.

Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GMC Full registration MBBS or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Distinction, prizes or honours during Postgraduate training
Experience
Essential criteria
- Post-CCT ENT (or equivalent) and able to supervise/train Spr to operate
- Satisfactory completion of clinical training attachments both in central (Teaching) and peripheral (District General) acute hospitals
Desirable criteria
- Project management experience.
Teaching
Essential criteria
- Enthusiastic and experienced in teaching clinical skills in the workplace or training environment to junior staff and students
Desirable criteria
- Experience of teaching to multidisciplinary groups Has successfully completed a ‘training the trainers’ or ‘teaching skills’ course Presentations at local/regional/national meetings
Research
Essential criteria
- Evidence of active participation and completion of an audit project
Desirable criteria
- Participation in a clinically-based research project.
