Job overview

 We are looking to recruit highly motivated Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner to work in our nursing leadership team in at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust (NUH). To help lead and develop the well-established team of nurses within NUH Endoscopy. The services operate across the whole of NUH, at Nottingham Treatment Centre, City Hospital Campus and Queens Medical Centre Campus.

We currently have vacancies for this role, 1 at City and 1 at Nottingham Treatment Centre Endoscopy Units.

It is a requirement that all staff members will work across the three sites when required. The Deputy sister/ Charge nurse will be based at Nottingham City Hospital or Queens Medical Centre  . The role requires forward thinking staff, with some leadership skills. Who are enthusiastic and who can ensure that the highest standards of care are met. You will be pro-active in the professional development of the nursing team and will need to demonstrate the ability to manage both acutely ill and chronically ill patients, alongside co-ordinating the clinical area and nursing teams.

Main duties of the job

In addition to the below summary  you need to familiarise yourself with full Job Description and Person Specification documents attached to this advert. The successful candidate will be required to work a minimum of 3 shifts per week.

Successful candidates must have excellent communication skills along with the ability to prioritise key tasks and should be able to learn new skills if required in a highly technical speciality. You will be pro-active and will need to demonstrate the ability to manage both acutely ill and chronically ill patients, alongside co-ordinating the clinical area. 

NUH Endoscopy is currently expanding its service to include weekend working and three session days covering evening working.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current level one NMC registration or Current HPC registration part 1
  • Diploma or Degree in health/nursing related Studies, or ODP equivalent study.
Desirable criteria
  • Formal Leadership and Managment Training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Min 2 years experienced in NHS acute care settings at band 5 or above.
  • Ability to manage a clinical area or ward efficiently and effectively
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of leading a team
  • Current Endoscopy Experience

Communication

Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate evidence of providing formal teaching sessions
  • Evidence of effective communication, negotiation and influencing skills

Planning and organisation

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate an ability to prioritise own workload of self and others, and recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the deputy sister/charge nurse role
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate leadership skills & ability to effectively lead a team.

Physical & other requirements specific to the role

Essential criteria
  • Physically able to perform the full range of nursing duties whilst wearing appropriate PPE
  • Ability to participate in the out of ours on call service.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings
  • Flexible in hours of work to meet the needs of the service

Analytical and Judgement skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to respond to problem situations and to ensure that effective interventions are put in place
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the deputy sister/charge nurse role
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of current issues related to the NHS policies
