Trust Grade Registrar - General Surgery (ST3+)

Trust Grade Registrar (ST3+)

Job overview

NUH is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Trust Grade doctor at ST3 level or above to support one of the largest General Surgery departments in the UK.

The post is offered as a fixed term contract for 12 months. Sub-specialty preferences will be discussed at interview and rotations are offered in line with preferences and departmental availability in line with rotations.

This is an exciting opportunity to get excellent experience in general surgery and sub-specialty elective services. You will work closely with consultants, other resident doctors and multi-disciplinary teams. You will also contribute to the Emergency General Surgery on-call rota and therefore completion of core surgical training (or equivalent), full MRCS, ALS (or equivalent) and previous UK experience are essential.

Main duties of the job

Our services are provided across two main campuses (Queen’s Medical Centre and City Hospital) and deliver separate sub-specialist emergency care for Colorectal, UGI and HPB conditions, alongside general surgery. Our elective care is also delivered across both sites and we have recently opened a brand-new theatre complex and elective inpatient ward at City campus.

You will support your allocated specialty with elective activities including clinics and theatres, and cover ward duties which will be allocated on a weekly basis. Whilst covering on-call duties, your duties will include but will not be limited to supporting the Surgical Triage Unit, emergency theatres and referrals.

Working for our organisation

Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) is one of the biggest and busiest NHS Trusts in the country with a budget of over £1billion and over 19,000 staff.  We provide services to over 2.5 million residents of Nottinghamshire.

NUH has a national and international reputation for the quality of our patient care and for research, education and innovation.

We offer a wide range of staff benefits including:

  • Access to the Staff Wellbeing programme including our free 24 hour staff advice and emotional support service, financial advice service, a staff physiotherapy service and staff support networks
  • On site day nursery
  • Amazon parcel collection points
  • Secure cycle facilities
  • Access to Spiritual and Pastoral Care Services
  • Salary sacrifice schemes
  • Cycle to work and travel passes
  • NHS discounts

We have recently been featured as the new home to Channel 4's  '24 Hours in A+E' television show.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will support various aspects of this busy service, with a commitment to an out of hours rota. The daytime role will be affiliated to one of our elective services. The post holder will attend clinics, theatre sessions and ward rounds as per allocation in a weekly firm timetable.
