An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered nurse with haematology/oncology experience to undertake a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager Role on Stirland Ward.

Stirland Ward is a fast-paced, 25 bedded clinical haematology and oncology ward caring for a diverse group of patients with haematological/oncological conditions and malignancies. We provide acute/emergency care for patients from across Nottinghamshire and the surrounding regions experiencing complications secondary to their underlying disease or the treatments they have undergone.

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and hard-working individual with proven clinical and leadership/management skills to join our competent and dedicated team in providing the highest standard of evidence-based, holistic patient care.

The successful candidate will:

 Act as the deputy to the ward manager, regularly taking charge of the ward and ensuring that the standards and quality of care given to patients, together with the environment in which care is delivered, are maintain at a high standard.

Be an effective leader and role model and will be expected to provide regular direct clinical care and use experience to support the implementation of both clinical and non‑clinical governance.

Work flexibly as a member of the ward team and in support of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to ensure standards are being maintained, evaluated, and where necessary improved.

  • Demonstrate basic IT skills
  • Able to administer IV medications/infusions

  • Chemo trained/willing to complete training
  • Evidence of continuing professional development/reflective profile
  • Completion of all local competency packages or has undertaken Working in New Ways packages essential to role and Specialty
  • Possession of a mentor/SSSA course

Experience

  • Significant post-registration experience in haematology/oncology
  • Supervision of non-registered and pre-registration staff/students
  • Experience leading a team/shift efficiently and effectively
  • Experience caring for, and managing, acutely unwell patients

  • Experience of audit/service development and improvement
  • Providing staff with feedback on their individual performance and conduct appraisals
