Job overview

Trust grade post in Microbiology working in liaison with the laboratory and clinical teams.

8.30am to 5pm with out of hours on call commitment on a non-resident on call rota for overnight and on site for daytime at the weekends.

Communication of important results with clinical teams

Documented clinical advice discussed with and available to clinical teams

Preparation of results for authorization and authorization of certain results

Preparation and participation in Ward rounds on Intensive care with senior cover and other MDTs as required

Working for our organisation

The Microbiology laboratory is a large NHS laboratory serving both NUH campuses, as well as Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust and Clinical Commissioning Groups with a total population of ~640,000.The department is actively involved in the clinical management of microbiological and virological infection with regular ward rounds and liaison with the specialist units, works closely with colleagues in Infectious Diseases and supports antimicrobial stewardship within the trust and community.

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MRCP (UK) Part 1, Part 2 and PACES
  • PLAB for non-European Graduates
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Completed core medical training or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Good and wide range experience of clinical medicine in an acute NHS inpatient setting
  • Evidence of commitment to a career in infection.

Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Evidence of ability to communicate with professionals.
  • Aware of own limitations, consults senior colleagues appropriately and knows when to ask for help

Analytical and Judgement skills

  • Evidence of participation in, and commitment to clinical audit.
  • Experience of and commitment to teaching medical students, more junior doctors and allied health professionals
