Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Nottingham Neonatal Service . Applications are invited for 2 WTE post as Junior Neonatal  Fellow,  for a period of 12 months. Successful applicants will have an exciting experience working as a junior neonatal doctor in Nottingham Neonatal 

These posts will help with safe transition of the recently expanded Neonatal intensive care unit at Queens Medical Centre, which happened in 2024.

This post is based in the neonatal service of Nottingham University Hospitals and will involve working on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at either City campus or Queens medical centre campus, as we provided cover over both sites.

Nottingham is the lead neonatal centre for the north of the East Midlands Operational Delivery Network (EM-ODN) with two neonatal units providing tertiary neonatal care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside other colleagues and will gain experience in the management of sick new born infants receiving a full range of neonatal intensive care including babies requiring surgical intervention.

The shift pattern will be a full shift pattern which is compliant with the new Junior Doctor Contract regulations.  The post holder will participate in a rota with 7 other individuals covering NICU shifts.

Educational supervision will be provided by a Consultant Neonatologist at NUH.

It is essential that applicants have a minimum of six months previous experience in Neonates or six months in a closely allied specialty (UK or equivalent).  Part 1 MRCPCH or equivalent level is highly desirable.  The service offers good close working arrangements within a friendly team.  The postholder will receive excellent training in Neonatology with good facilities and research experienc.

Essential criteria
  • MB ChB or equivalent. GMC Registration
  • Part 1 MRCPCH
Desirable criteria
  • Part 2 MRCPCH

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Completion of Foundation Programme or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of neonates in a UK Centre

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients their families and other health professionals. Able to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for the service development/delivery. Able to delegate appropriately. Able to work within a team. Evidence of participation in clinical audit. Able to teach and support junior staff effectively
