The Occupational Health Department of Nottingham University Hospitals is looking to recruit an accredited specialist in occupational medicine to join the Occupational Health team. 

The Occupational Health team is part of the Corporate HR department and is SEQOHS accredited. We are a multi-disciplinary team, comprising occupational health doctors (consultants, resident doctors, locally employed doctors), specialist nurses, nurse advisors, occupational health technicians and counsellors all supported by a team of medical administrators.

 

Main duties of the job

The role of the consultant occupational physician within the Occupational Health Service is the delivery of specialist occupational health care, working with and as part of a wider multi-disciplinary occupational health team. This includes the expert management of complex cases and incidents and spending time reflecting and reviewing the activity of the service so that quality and safety continuously improve.

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration
  • MFOM or equivalent
  • Eligible to be included on the GMC’s specialist register for occupational medicine or be within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview
Desirable criteria
  • FFOM/ MRCP/ MRCGP/ MRCPsych
  • Higher management degree or qualification/training
  • Higher teaching degree or qualification or training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of Policy development
  • Assessment of complex fitness for work cases
  • Assessment of applications for early release of pension benefits on the grounds of permanent ill health
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working in NHS occupational health
  • Able to teach and support junior staff effectively
  • Original research/ Publication

Communication and Relationship Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to provide clear advice to managers regarding the effective management of workplace health, at both a policy and individual case level
  • Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with employees, managers, HR professionals, and other health professionals.
  • Able to work within a multi-disciplinary team

Analytical and Judgement Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to develop, present and action coherent ideas for service development/delivery
  • Able to delegate appropriately

Planning and Organisation Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to prioritise own workload
Desirable criteria
  • Higher management degree or qualification or training

Other requirements specific to the role (eg be able to drive or work shifts)

Essential criteria
  • Ability to travel between the City Hospital Campus and Queen’s Medical Centre campus
  • Ability to travel to external clients’ off-site locations
