This is an exciting opportunity within Outpatient Services. The Receptionists core working hours are Monday to Friday between 8am - 6pm. You will have excellent Customer Service Skills and be committed to providing a first class service

Main duties of the job

Working as part of the Outpatient Team you will be responsible for greeting patients at Reception , checking and updating personal details while maintaining patient confidentiality.  Using the Hospital PAS and other relevant booking systems, you will arrange follow up appointments and update details accurately and efficiently. You will have excellent communication skills and will deal appropriately with enquiries both by telephone and in person.

You  must be able to use your own initiative and respond to queries within and outside of the Organisation with a professional manner to patients, relatives and staff. You will present a professional and polite manner at all times.

You just be educated to GCSE standard, possess excellent communication skills and be competent in the use of computer systems including Microsoft packages and Hospital PAS

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • To be educated to 'O' level, GCSE or equivalent standard including English and Maths
  • Competent computer and software knowledge and skills
Desirable criteria
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology

Communication Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to communicate to a wide range of patients and staff groups
  • Ability to exchange clear information both verbally and written
  • Ability to develop good working relationships

Analytical & Judgement skills

Essential criteria
  • Exercise good judgement and know when to seek advice when dealing with patient enquiries
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality
  • Work in line with Trust Policies and Procedures

Planning & Organisation skills

Essential criteria
  • Planning and organisation of routine tasks
  • Plan and organise own time
  • Ability to prioritise own work in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work within the Standard Operating Procedures to ensure consistent Trust wide Practice

Physical skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work at a computer for prolonged periods
  • Be able to manipulate Trolleys of Patient notes

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of team working and use of own initiative
  • Customer Service experience
  • Knowledge of telephone equipment
  • Previous administration experience
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Hospital IT systems eg Careflow, Notis, Webhiss, DHR, ERS
  • Receptionist experience
  • Previous experience of working in a healthcare environment
  • 18 week RTT knowledge and experience
