SENIOR CLINICAL FELLOW IN PAEDIATRIC DERMATOLOGY- Accredited for Post-CCT fellowship training by British Association of Dermatologists

This is a 12 month post to commence 3rd August 2026.

This Senior Clinical fellow post in Paediatric Dermatology at Nottingham Children’s Hospital (part of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust) provides 12 months supervised experience for individuals intending to practice as a dermatologist specialising in paediatric dermatology.

Preference will be given to applicants who have fulfilled all the requirements for CCT in dermatology who will be eligible to achieve post CCT accreditation in paediatric dermatology from the British Association of Dermatologists. Applications will also be considered from pre CCT or CESR dermatology trainees or paediatricians wishing to develop their experience in paediatric dermatology. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a minimum of 1 year experience in specialised paediatric dermatology.

The post is full time based at Queen’s medical Centre, Nottingham. The trainee will be given the opportunity to acquire capabilities in the following 3 areas: Dermatology as applied to paediatric practice; General paediatrics as applied to dermatology practice; Advanced paediatric dermatology and genetics

Applicants should be fully registered with the GMC and have a licence to practice.

Hours of work will be 40 hours per week Mon-Fri with no on call commitments

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric dermatology (10PA) to be an integral part of our paediatric dermatology team at Nottingham University Hospitals.

The post will be based in the paediatric dermatology department and is intended to support higher specialist training in paediatric dermatology.

The post holder will undertake the following roles:

·         Work as a paediatric dermatologist in a supervised capacity to support the current service in both outpatients and for inpatient referrals

·         Provide paediatric dermatology assessment, diagnosis and management to the population of children and young people served by Nottingham Children’s Hospital.

·         Contribute to vetting new referrals and Advice and Guidance requests from GPs to the paediatric dermatology service

·         Teach on the undergraduate and postgraduate training programme and supervise of medical students

·         Provide cross cover for consultant colleagues during periods of leave  

·         Recruit to dermatology research trials as appropriate

There is no out of hours on-call commitment.

The appointee will have the opportunity to attend educational activities appropriate to the role

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric dermatology (10PA) to be an integral part of our paediatric dermatology team at Nottingham University Hospitals.

The post will be based in the paediatric dermatology department and is intended to support higher specialist training in paediatric dermatology. . It is a replacement post following the success of our first post CCT fellows last year. . The post will provide 12 months of supervised experience for individuals intending to practice as a dermatologist with a special interest in paediatric dermatology. For those individuals who have fulfilled all the requirements to obtain CCT in dermatology there will be the opportunity to achieve post CCT accreditation in paediatric dermatology from the British Association of Dermatologists. The post is also open to paediatricians with an interest in paediatric dermatology, and pre-CCT or CESR dermatology trainees but these applicants will not be eligible for post CCT

accreditation. The trainee will be given the opportunity to acquire capabilities in the 3 areas of the post CCT fellowship curriculum

· Dermatology as applied to paediatric practice

· General paediatrics as applied to dermatology practice

· Advanced paediatric dermatology and genetics

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GMC Full Registration.
  • MRCP or ORCPCH
Desirable criteria
  • Distinction, prizes or honours during Postgraduate training.
  • CCT in dermatology/paediatrics or within 6 months of it

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Show evidence of having taught medical students or junior doctors in a hospital setting.
Desirable criteria
  • Presentations at local/regional/national meetings.
  • Has successfully completed a ‘training the trainers’ or ‘teaching skills’ course.

Experience/ skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate previous tertiary experience of UK paediatric dermatology
  • Minimum 1 year dermatology experience.
  • Shows clear training structure as part of career path and commitment to paediatric dermatology
Desirable criteria
  • Achieved all capabilities for CCT in Dermatology

Research and Audit

Essential criteria
  • Publications in an area relevant to Paediatric dermatolog
  • Motivation to develop a research project
  • Evidence of completed audit or quality improvement project.
Desirable criteria
  • Participation in a clinically-based and/or educational research project with involvement at key stages (design, data collection, analysis, preparation of abstracts and final paper).
  • Evidence of completed paediatric dermatology audit or quality improvement project
