Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Cleanroom Supervisor to join the Pharmacy team in the Cytotoxic Chemotherapy Production Unit, City Campus, at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH). You will be joining a team of hardworking and dedicated professionals who formulate, prepare and aseptically compound medicines for our most vulnerable patients. 

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring a high quality and responsive pharmacy aseptic preparative service is available for the Trust, its patients and staff and external customers.

 

The post holder will develop, motivate and lead this professional team to provide the pharmacy production unit with an efficient aseptic preparative service. This will include the responsibility to ensure the deployment of staff to meet the organisations requirements and will be expected to challenge the traditional boundaries of service delivery by introducing innovative change to develop a multi-skilled team of staff.

Potential candidates must have extensive experience within production services, along with in depth knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice to enable them to fulfil all elements of the job role.

Main duties of the job

In addition to the summary below you need to familiarise yourself with the full job description and person specification. This interesting and varied role will require you to process and manufacture a wide range of sterile medicines including chemotherapy and investigational medicinal products for clinical trial patients. The work will be varied and challenging, working to tight deadlines to achieve targets and respond to patient and customer needs. You should be able work under pressure, prioritise and organise workloads and be able to work alone or as part of a bigger team.  We are looking for confident self-motivated individuals with excellent IT, communication, problem solving and decision making skills. You will need to be able to work unsupervised in all aspects of pharmaceutical manufacturing, including: specialist aseptic dispensing, preparation of investigational medicinal products for clinical trial patients and work in specialised cleanroom environments using specialist equipment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • To demonstrate they can be trained, gain new skills and work to set levels of competency
  • Educated to GCSE Grade C/4 and above in English, Maths and Science (or equivalent)
  • NVQ level 2 in Pharmaceutical Services or Pharmacy manufacturing or equivalent qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with GPhC OR Registered Science Technician (RSciTech) with Science Council
  • Aseptic dispensing course attended, e.g. Aseptic Preparation and Dispensing of Medicines (Leeds University)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience in a pharmacy Aseptic Unit.
  • Ability to dispense aseptic products accurately following GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and SOP.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of GMP standards
  • Knowledge of stock control systems
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Aseptics and chemotherapy production
  • Supervisory experience
  • Auditing GMP compliance within a production environment

  • Ability to communicate with tact and persuasiveness in a manner that will neither offend nor antagonise

  • Flexibility – will be required to participate in rostered, flexible shift working
  • Able to participate in the Late Duty, Weekend and Bank Holiday Service, including 7-day working
  • Be flexible to starting early and working late in response to service needs
  • Must have the ability to wear appropriate PPE required for the role
