Job overview

We are expanding our Pharmacy Leadership Team at Nottingham University Hospitals and are seeking an influential and highly experienced Pharmacist to act in a new role of Associate Chief Pharmacist.  You will work with the Chief Pharmacist to transform Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation at one of the largest teaching Trusts in the country, ensuring that our Clinical and Operational services are fit for the future and fully in line with the strategic direction in the NHS 10 year plan.

This is an ideal role for an aspiring Chief Pharmacist and is a rare opportunity to develop your knowledge, experience and profile at this level. You will lead an incredible team of Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, and Pharmacy Assistants and will be welcomed and supported by the wider Pharmacy and Trust Leadership Teams who want to see our team thrive and enjoy coming to work.

You must be an accomplished, authentic and caring Pharmacy leader with significant experience of strategically designing, delivering and leading hospital pharmacy services, including major change projects. Main duties of the job

To deputise for, and support, the Chief Pharmacist to develop and implement a vision and strategic direction for Pharmacy, particularly with respect to clinical and operational services.

To be responsible for leading on the development, planning / implementation and evaluation of long term strategies, operational policies and standards for pharmacy services provided within and external to the Trust, and to ensure that these fit with and support the Pharmacy Department, Trust and ICS agendas.

On behalf of the Chief Pharmacist, to lead and manage a series of high level improvement projects within the Pharmacy department and outwards across the Trust.

To have managerial and leadership accountability for Pharmacy Clinical and Operational services, ensuring that they support the safe and cost effective delivery of high quality patient care, staff education, and research.

To be an active member of the Trust Pharmacy Leadership Team.

To participate in rostered flexible shift working including evening, weekend and bank holiday arrangements in line with service commitments and 7 day working pattern

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • B.Pharm/BSc (Pharmacy) or MPharm
  • Post graduate diploma/MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Senior management training or equivalent experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive previous Hospital Pharmacy experience of working at a senior level (e.g. Deputy/Assistant Chief Pharmacist or equivalent)
  • Experience in leading change management or transformation across pharmacy services
  • Significant experience of managing large teams, appraisal and handling complex performance or disciplinary management
  • Experience of working with Senior Healthcare professionals outside of pharmacy
Desirable criteria
  • High national profile in hospital Pharmacy

Communication and Relationship

Essential criteria
  • Good interpersonal and negotiating skills, ability to interact with multidisciplinary teams, senior management and specialists
  • Able to motivate and influence others through strong compassionate inclusive leadership

Analytical and Judgement

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of NHS policy and issues affecting NHS Pharmacy services
  • Understanding of clinical risk management and its application
  • Positive thinker, problem solver, ability to think laterally to develop new ideas

Planning and Organisation

Essential criteria
  • Able to formulate long term strategic plans for the effective development of Pharmacy Services
  • Resilient, able to cope with adversity and ambiguity
