Job overview
We are looking for registered pharmacy technicians with a recognised checking accuracy qualification to join our team of patient-facing Medicines Management Technicians.
You will work with our clinical pharmacists and other members of the multidisciplinary team to optimise the use of medicines rotating within the surgical and medical areas as per rota and supporting some specialist wards when required at NUH. Making a real difference to patient safety, patient experience and satisfaction and operational flow through the Trust.
You will be fully supported by our team to achieve your full potential as a key member of the team of people looking after our patients.
As part of this role, you will be required to work cross-site, initially starting at City Hospital.
Main duties of the job
To improve and support the quality of patient care on admission and at discharge within a variety of clinical areas at NUH, through the provision of a professional and effective medicines management service.
This will include the assessment, and where suitable, re-use of patient’s own medications, accurate and meticulous drug histories, thorough patient counselling, timely preparation of discharge prescriptions, one-stop dispensing and authorised self-checking, as well as supporting the ward teams with storage and security issues.
The role involves supporting the dispensary when required and performing weekend duties. The shifted and bank holiday duties are as follows:
- To participate in departmental weekends, bank holidays and late duty working as required. At the time of advertising, the weekend rota encompasses 2 half-day shifts every 4/5 weeks at the City campus or 1 full day shift every 4 weeks at the QMC campus.
- In addition, the post holder will participate in a system of flexible shifts to facilitate NUH pharmacy opening times.

Essential criteria
- General Pharmaceutical Council registered Pharmacy Technician
- • Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (Accredited scheme or evidence of in-house validations).
Desirable criteria
- Medicine Management Assessments or Validations (Accredited or proof of in-house training) Proven knowledge and understanding of the medicine management technician role and responsibilities within hospital pharmacy.
Qualifications

- BTEC/NVQ level 3 in pharmaceutical services
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Substantial knowledge of medicine management procedures and policies
- • Can demonstrate that they can work on their own initiative but know limits of their authority and knowledge.
