An exciting opportunity has presented for an experienced Pharmacy Technician to develop their skills in this cross campus, operational role. We are looking for a Training & Development Lead Pharmacy Technician to cover a 9 month secondment and join our busy Pharmacy dispensary service at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. 

Joining a group of Lead Technicians, the role supports the Chief Technician to ensure we deliver a safe and high-quality Pharmacy Dispensary service. Working cross-site within the Lead Technician group to manage the day-to-day coordination of the service, the post will lead on providing training and assessment for Pharmacy Dispensary staff to ensure provision of a high-quality service. 

This new role is a great opportunity to develop training delivery and leadership skills within a busy acute hospital Pharmacy setting.

Main duties of the job

- Support staff training, planned assessments and validations, working with the Pharmacy Education and Training team.

- Ensuring Pharmacy Dispensary specific staff induction and training programmes are in place.

- Support day-to-day management and coordination of the Pharmacy Dispensary service, planning and organising staffing to ensure an appropriate skill-mix, ensuring continuity of service.

- Participate in the dispensing and accuracy checking process, including the dispensing and safe handling of oral cytotoxics and controlled drugs.

- Assist in the monitoring of service Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure quality, effectiveness and efficiency.

- Review service standards and provisions and implement change where appropriate through project improvement work.

- Complete individual annual performance reviews (appraisals) and support to identify objectives and training requirements.

- Support managing Pharmacy Dispensary staffing absence supported by the Trust Wellbeing and Attendance Management policy.

- Involved in the recruitment and selection of Pharmacy Dispensary service staff.

  • Qualified Pharmacy Technician registered (or has ability to register) with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Pharmacy Dispensary Lead Technician role and responsibilities within a hospital pharmacy
  • Experience in educating/ training others
  • Experience of prioritising workload and flow
Desirable criteria
  • Validated Pharmacy accuracy checker, or able to work towards this
  • Ability to train individuals and small groups
