Specialist Physiotherapist - medical inpatients

Band 6

There is an exciting opportunity to join the Medical Inpatient Physiotherapy team, City campus, NUH, working flexibly across a wide variety of clinical areas in a peripatetic role to cover maternity leave. 

 

This role would be ideal for an existing band 6 looking to consolidate their knowledge and skills when working with patients who have complex, long-term medical conditions or an experienced band 5 with relevant inpatient mileage who may be considering a career in inpatient services.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for their own inpatient caseload as well as supporting band 5 therapists, support workers and students.  They will work within a senior structure that provides peer support and training.

 

This role would be ideal for a highly motivated professional who has an interest in inpatient care and developing broad skills across specialties. Experience of service development and leadership qualities is desirable but these skills will be developed in this role.

This role will provide a high standard of physiotherapy input to patients within respiratory, renal, oncology, haematology, infectious diseases and palliative care, working flexibly across existing pathways.

 

The successful candidate must be able to assess and treat patients with a range of conditions, including acute respiratory needs and be comfortable in providing training and teaching. You should be comfortable with complex discharges, MDT working and advocating for patients whilst role modelling NUH values in their everyday practice.

 

You will contribute to the out of hours respiratory rota at City Campus, NUH. This includes late shifts (1pm - 9pm), on-calls and weekend working (approx.1 per month).

Up-skilling and supervision of other staff is essential to this role.

 

You will be expected to provide student supervision and previous experience is preferred. The successful candidate will be supported to attend a course on clinical education if required.

The Occupational Therapy service is part of the Therapies, Outpatients and Phlebotomy Services (TOPS) Directorate, within the Specialist Clinical Services care group.  We are a diverse directorate of AHPs, nursing and support staff, employing around 1000 staff, working together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to. Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists. We have a Chief AHP to lead us on our strategic direction, and many of the directorate leadership team have AHP backgrounds to support our staff. There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all.

  • This is a full time (1.0 wte), fixed term, static band 6 role to cover maternity leave.
  • Core hours are worked Monday to Friday, 8:00 – 16:00 although flexible working will be considered.
  • Additional duties will include participation in on-call and weekend working as well as a late shift (1-9pm). Weekends are rostered with expected frequency of 1:6, an on-call average 1 per month and late shifts approximately 1 per month but all are dependent on service need and staffing levels.
