Job overview

We are looking for a Radiography Assistant who is interested in working at the Nottingham Breast Institute, in Ultrasound. The successful candidate will be expected to work Monday to Friday. 

The candidate will work under the supervision of a Registered Radiographer to provide support to the Breast imaging team in the Breast Department. The role involves working with patients and members of the multi-disciplinary team within the Breast Institute and will include escorting and chaperoning patients in ultrasound and assisting radiologists, clinicals and radiographers during screening and symptomatic breast clinics.

The main duties of this job include - 

Escorting and chaperoning for ultrasound and clinical examinations 
Assisting with ultrasound and stereotactic guided biopsy 
Caring for patients during and after diagnostic procedures
Preparing examination room and equipment ready for use 
Maintaining stock levels and ordering stock if required
Moving procedure trolleys and stock delivery equipment and occasional moving of patient couches

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Patient care and communication

Escorting and chaperoning for ultrasound and clinical examinations
Assisting with ultrasound and stereotactic guided biopsy procedures
Caring for patients during and after diagnostic procedure 
Preparing examination room and equipment ready for use
Reporting any non-conformances to the senior radiographer on duty
Providing a high standard of patient care and communication 
Being aware of individual patient needs, demonstrate empathy and sensitivity in sometimes highly emotive situations and if necessary, request the assistance of a trained breast care nurse.
Communicating effectively with clients and patients from different backgrounds, or who may have challenging behaviours, learning and physical disabilities or who may have received bad news.
communicating effectively across a range of health care professionals 
Maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with Trust policies and procedures

Physical and Financial Resources

Maintain stock control and order stock if required

Physical skills and effort

Delivering biopsy specimens to pathology department 
Moving procedure trolleys and stock delivery equipment and occasional moving of patient couches

Mental and emotional effort

Concentration required during biopsy procedures 
Ability to act under distressing or emotional circumstances

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 4 GCSE including Maths and English
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 3

Communication

Essential criteria
  • Is able to show good communication skills
Desirable criteria
  • Has knowledge of hospital IT systems

Experience

  • Shows flexibility to working across different sites in different areas
Desirable criteria
  • Able to identify learning needs for this post

Skill
