Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered nurse to join our team on SRU as a band 5 Registered Nurse in either a secondment or fixed term post. The ideal candidate would be looking to gain experience in a face paced, high turn over admissions area or/and looking to seek more knowledge and experience in the 4 specialities we care for. The Specialist Receiving Unit is an admissions area which accepts patients under the specialities of Oncology, Haematology, Renal and Infectious Diseases. The ward is a short stay unit with a fast turnover of patients, the candidate must be able to work in a busy and fast paced environment whilst co-ordinating the safe transfer of patients to base wards.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and committed registered nurse to join our team. You must display excellent organisational and communication skills and be confident to deal with members of the public and the hospitals multidisciplinary team.

We would consider offering this as either a Fixed Term / Secondment opportunity. 

Main duties of the job

You must display excellent organisational and communication skills and be confident to deal with members of the public and the hospitals multidisciplinary team.  You will be expected to be accountable for patient care, regularly communicating with the wider MDT along with patients and their loved ones. SRU is a busy and fast paced admissions unit, which requires the team to think on their feet and prioritise tasks appropriately, ensuring high-standards of care are delivered and maintained.

  • Level 1 NMC registration

  • Experience in any of the 4 specialties

Experience

  • Experience of delivering nursing care to a group of patients
  • Experience of working with wider MDT

Physical Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate competance and accuracy in undertaking clinical skills, using equipment and documentation.
  • Able to perform the full range of nursing duties required for the roll.

Analytical and Judgement Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate an ability to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate patient care.
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current issues related to the NHS.

Communication Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Have the skills and willingness to participate in difficult conversations.
  • Demonstrate team working and ability to work within a team

Planning and Organisational Skills
