Consultant in Genitourinary Medicine

Consultant

Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a Genitourinary Medicine Consultant to help deliver and shape the future of Sexual Health and HIV services in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. These newly created posts are based at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and includes regular clinics in Bassetlaw.

Main duties of the job

The role will be based between the City Campus at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust and Community Clinics in Bassetlaw, North Nottinghamshire. The candidates will be providing all aspects of integrated Sexual Health Care, with a focus on level 3 STI care.

They will provide out-patient HIV care for a cohort of people living with HIV in the Bassetlaw and Nottingham City area.

There are no direct in-patient responsibilities, although we do provide ward in-reach for HIV and and GUM support  where patients are under the care of other speciality teams.

There may be opportunities for special interest clinics depending on the skills and expertise of the candidate (which could include Prison sexual healthcare, Psychosexual, complex PrEP, complex GUM or Genital Dermatology).

The department also supports the development of personal research interests and regularly acts as a recruiting centre for national or international trials in both HIV and GUM.

As a teaching hospital, the department supports an active training programme for resident doctors, and also hosts medical students from Nottingham University. The candidate will be involved in teaching and training of both undergraduates and post graduates.

The NUH Sexual Health service, alongside all other Royal College of Physicians Group 1 Medical Services / Specialties at NUH, provides a 0.5PA job planned contribution per new Consultant appointment, to support the unselected and / or generalist needs of our patients.
